My 5 Loaves and 2 Fishes

Haven't been updating lately probably because there's too many things that I wanted to do during the holidays and I don't know what to begin with.

So many reasons to tell me that I shouldn't
Flipping and tossing in the middle of the night
Things flashing into my mind like a
fast forwarded movie as i fight
I want that rest but I couldn't because there's too many
that i wanted to do
So much so that I became tired
I want to stop these cycles
I want to move on to greater heights.

For those who are curious (partly because I'm alittle bored), this are some of the paintings that I've done for SPJ3. There are not very good though because time was running out at that time. Lot's of mistakes as usual...

Struggle

Finally got myself settle down to do a painting other than sketching. Today's feature is a super anorexic Ariel from The little Mermaid. Yes, it's my own version of Ariel. Had really fun time creating this version...making her look bony and sort of ugly, painting the rib cage which looks kind of wrong... The picture is pretty huge though.

A world where looks is the priority. But...
What about kindness?
What about talent?
What about intelligence?
What about diligence?
What about...character?

A world where we are brought up by the media that looks is everything. A handsome prince always goes after a beautiful girl, they kissed and happily ever after. They gave us a dream, but a dream that is unreachable unless you do plastic surgery. But so what if you can change your original face to another nicer face? In the end, emptiness always catches up with you.

An artificial beauty. What about it? One day that face will grow old and wrinkly, just like your original face. Why place your money onto something that will fade away?

Will Prince Eric still want Ariel if she doesn't have the looks when he first met her? Will Ariel get the kiss she wants when she can't talk?

Nuts

Seems like I've been able to concentrate on drawing in the middle of the night lately...this explains why i've been posting on my blog really late. Anyway, did some random character design based on a particular person. At that time i just randomly did a really quick sketch of her (not going to reveal who is it because it looks nothing like the original reference.) then tried to draw the same person in different ways. Was kinda fun doing it..maybe next time i'll try to be more crazy with the different ways of drawing the same person. I'll probably post a colour version of these sketches for the next blog entry.

SOre at heart

Heavy hearted, disappointed. Overcame with grief.

Any way, I have been sketching out 2 versions of my own remake version of Ariel. I have always liked the story of "the little mermaid" since young, so it was quite fun doing these sketches. I know the other version looks eccentric, but it's interesting and i kind of liked it.

Other than doing Ariel, I've also been working on this robot character. He looks cliche now, but i'll be trying to develop his looks into something more original. What made me came out with this concept was that I've been thinking that sometimes, we human seems more like a robot ourselves. In work life, we're always trying hard to please someone by following their orders, even though it pains us or the people around us to do it and sometimes, in the process of doing it, we ended up hurting ourselves and our loved ones. Sooner or later, deep down in our hearts, we start to earn for freedom.

Similarly, this robot is a worker. His job is to fight with other robots. (Like a wrestler). He has always been talented in fighting and so his talent was discovered. An employer employs him to fight. He got richer and became famous and was happy. However, one day, he found himself face to face with his own best friend. Because he was unable to handle the pressure from the world, with his fame and fortune at stake, he ended up destroying his own friend....A super duper rough story. This explains for the many loops and questions in this rough story. Will be refining it next time.
